Two by two we walk
Under the canopy of the heavens
Hoping the heavens that give us heart
Are watching and wondering what we’ll do.
Why two? Why not one or three?
Because the world is our partner in this dance
No matter how much we may disclaim
That we are the inner soul of being.
This world is the companion of our days
And when the world feels distant
Who will save us from ourselves
We who gorge on certainty and doubt?
We are not emissaries from beyond
We are the beyond taking a turn
Around the precincts of this world
Hoping to find a place to land.
The lesson we once knew is returning:
That this living Earth is not just our mother
She is our chance to live with heart
